Reflections of the inner light. Discerning a vocation as a lay contemplative Franciscan. Occasionally mendicant. A long time moving down the road of spiritual awareness in the spirit of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi. Slowly waking, looking around. Writing about the journey. Inspired by Jesus and the Apostles, Francis and Clare, Thich Nhat Hahn, and His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama. Simple reflections of a journey. Welcome, come walk for a bit.

As we approach Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and the many other potential opportunities for stress or anxiety encountered over the holidays, we can take a moment to pause with this basic breathing meditation, which can help restore a sense of peace and calm and balance.
In whatever situations we encounter over the next few weeks, we find in those moments an opportunity to take a deep breath and say to ourselves, "Breathing in I have arrived". As we slowly let the breath out, we might say to ourselves, "breathing out I am home." Just as our breath continues, we can continue our meditation by shortening the phrase to "arrived" with each in breath, and "home" with each out breath. In this way we have the opportunity to regain our peace and calm, allowing whatever stress or anxiety we have experienced to flow out and away with each breath.
Adapted from the mindfulness teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh.
